The story of Shooting Star Ranch - Barry & Christine Harrison

After boarding animals at a friend's farm, we started our own farm, Shooting Star Ranch, in 1998. We have learned a lot and fallen in love with these animal's beauty and unique personalities. We began with the goal of establishing a bull farm to produce Elk Velvet antler, but soon discovered the many diverse products elk can produce. We expanded our farm to include a cow-calf operation. We now produce Premium Ranched Elk meat, EVA Performance, EVA Arthritis, Antler crafts and Farm Tours.

We love to watch our elk strolling through the field outside our window, seeing the calves being born and listening to the magnificent bugling of the bulls in the fall.

Most years have their ups and downs, as is with everything in life. Unfortunatly there was an Enerplus pipeline leak of mostly salt water on our property. This not only cost us a huge loss of our pastures, but considerable stress to the elk. The calves were just starting to be born and in turn we lost 11 of them. We then had a shortage of replacement animals for our meat business and did run short periodically. But rest assured 2013 seems better and we should be back into keeping our full inventory of products.
